1949 Gérard Crête completed construction of his first sawmill in 1949. A man of vision and determination, he played a leadership role in both his company and in the community. His son, Martin, joined the business in 1958 and has since overseen many developements that have guided the company through the years, including some very difficult times.

Gestion S. Crête Inc. acquired the assets of Rabotage Guérette at Sainte-Thérèse. The company specialized in the kiln drying and planing of softwood and hardwood. Our company had a production capacity of 30 millions BFM per year and employed 20 people.
On November 6, 1999, the plant was completly ravaged by fire. Following the blaze, the administration decided to reinvest at the condition of being relocalized to a new site. In fact, the old land of 220,000 square feet was a barrier to new investments targeting value-added products.
In March 2000, the company was finally able to buy, in Saint-Jérôme, a 110,000 square foot industrial building on a piece of land measuring 2,700, 000 square feet with direct access to rail transportation. Maxi-Forêt was given the mission of providing high quality services for the transformation of added value wood products.
